The Year of the Fire Rooster – With Chinese Chance Fortune Cookies For Each Sign’s Future with The Rooster
January 28, 2017 – February 15, 2018

By Dikki-Jo Mullen
(Originally parts of this feature appeared in The Witches’ Almanac. Thanks is given for their gracious permission to reprint and share here)

Long Ago the Buddha gave a marvelous (and to this day memorable) party. He invited the animals to attend. Sometimes it is said that the celebration was for Buddha’s birthday, other records describe it as his farewell to Earth before ascending to the heavens. It feels right to think of it commemorating both events. So Buddha’s call was answered. First The Rat, then The Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Rooster, Dog and finally The Boar arrived. The twelve creatures were surprised with an unusual reward. Buddha gave them each a year and decreed they would be the animals to hide in the hearts of all humans born that year. This parade of the animals gives us the oldest of the world’s calendars. Based on a cycle of twelve years rather than twelve months it is used throughout the Far East from Japan and Korea to Vietnam and China. Five elements (fire, water, metal, earth and wood) are also a part of the system. Every sixty years the pattern of element-animal pairs repeats. Chinese New Year commences with the New Moon in Aquarius, so it begins in late January to mid February.
If you were born in the year of the Rooster Chinese astrology welcomes a bright and brilliant cycle as your animal year returns. Everything is larger than life. You are stimulated and in some ways challenged. Awake early, this is a brash and bossy bird. Be adventurous and wear your finest feathers (fashions). Others appreciate your multi talents and energetic outlook. You are a powerful intellectual, ambitious and witty. Complex, creative and factual, you must always forgive and forget disappointments, don’t let resentment build. You are drawn to detailed analysis and business . Problem solving is your special talent. You can enjoy travel and exploration as well as mystical and spiritual studies during your year.

Inauguration Day Astrology
January 20, 2017
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer

At 12:00, high noon, in Washington DC, on a Friday the new President is scheduled to take The Oath of Office. The chart for that moment is called an event chart and describes the Trump presidency.
Here are the major astrological placements:
Sun – Aquarius 10th house
Moon- Scorpio 6th house
Mercury- Capricorn 9th house
Venus – Pisces 11th house
Mars – Pisces 11th house
Jupiter – Libra 6th house
Saturn – Sagittarius 8th house
Uranus- Aries- 12th house
Neptune – Pisces 11th house
Pluto- Capricorn 9th house
Ascendant – Rising sign 14 degrees of Taurus conjunct Fixed Star Menkar
In this type of chart the Sun describes the leader. The other placements are also interpreted in a wider context than in an individual’s horoscope. The Sun has no major applying aspects, but it is angular. This shows prominence and a strong personality, but many goals might not manifest. The unaspected Sun often drifts and loses steam. The Scorpio Moon is strongly aspected. This shows the common people and surging emotions as well as much support. The new First Lady might become unpopular or her influence will be very subtle. She will be a very different First Lady than Michelle O. was. The 6th house placements accent the health care issue. The 9th house planets indicate transformative policies and much discussion regarding foreign countries. Jupiter in Libra indicates growth and reform in the justice system and the issue of equality. Saturn’s placement shows turmoil regarding the CIA. It could also show a death in office and/or budget and banking problems. The Vice President, who, like the new President has a Gemini Sun Sign, could be very strong. Mike Pence might either be taking over office or doing much of the actual work behind the scenes at The White House in the months ahead. The Uranus placement shows sudden new issues coming to light and secret friends as well as adversaries. The Taurus ascendant and the Star Menkar show a fixed attitude, very unfavorable for ecology and slower actual change than promised. There could also be more rumors and scandals afoot than during the previous presidency. Money and economics will be a significant factor with this ascendant.
Well, “Truth is the daughter of time”, as the biographer of Richard III wrote. Time will tell if these thoughts hold true but they reflect what I see, writing in the early hours of January 20, 2017, Inauguration Day for the 45th US President, Donald J. Trump.

Friday The 13th Astrology and Magic of the Days January 13 and October 13 in 2017
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer
(Born on the 13th of another month)

There are two of them this year. Friday the Thirteenths. Triskaidekaphobiacs (those who fear 13) can plan to shake and shiver while we triskadekophiles (those who love 13) can begin to smile and intone “carpe diem – live it up”! Surveys reveal that most of us have some feeling, pro or con, about a Friday the 13th day when it roles around. As a triskadekophile, born on the 13th and with 13 letters in my name, I have always marveled at all of the links to 13. It’s the Death Card in the Tarot, 13 witches make a full coven, 13 Full Moons make a lunar year, 13 attended The Last Supper. The United States of America, the wealthiest and most privileged society which has ever existed on the planet, has a flag of 13 stripes, 13 original states, the National Seal has an eagle with 13 tail feathers holding 13 arrows and 13 olive branches. The number 13 links to Masonic practices too, which were followed by many of the Nation’s founders. Fridays are named for Freya, a Norse goddess linked to love and feminine power. Fridays favor love, leisure and indulgence over business. TGIF, Thank goodness it’s Friday. It’s pay day and the end of a week of work and drudgery for many. There is a legend about a ship, the SS Friday, with a Captain Friday. It set sail and vanished on a Friday the 13th and was neither captain nor crew was heard from again. A carpenter who worked for our family once said he never accepted a new job if it came in on a Friday. Overall Fridays don’t favor long distance travel.
On Friday, January 13, 2017 the Moon will be in flamboyant and dramatic Leo. Black cat coincidences might be in evidence as this is the sign of the Lion. Humor and drama related to 13 can prevail. The Full Moon phase is just ending and this can bring a peak of paranormal activity. Why not visit a haunted site or have a séance? The Sun will parallel the dwarf planet Pluto on this Friday the 13th. This accents creativity, willpower and the ability for individuals to make a difference – for good or not depending on personal inclination.
On Friday, October 13, 2017 the Moon will enter Leo at 3:43 am EDT . This lunar transit is an example of one of the many coincidences which surround these mysterious days. Watch for cat omens and any rituals or films or theatrical productions which feature myth and magic. On October 13 there will be a Moon-Jupiter square as the only significant aspect. This brings a zest for life and quest for adventure. Life assumes a bigger and brighter dimension for many.
Both months favor honoring Friday the 13th with a special candle and incense because Leo is a fire sign. Try patchouli or frankincense fragrances and a red or orange candle. Focus on what these mystical days mean to you and chant either thirteen or three times at your preference: Don’t blow or pinch out the candle, that will cancel its power. Snuff it instead or just allow it burn out.
“Radiant Light, Lost Magic Time,
Welcome Surprises and Visions,
A blessed Day for is mine
All that is bad turn to good and revision”
So Be It! Wishes for happy and interesting Friday the 13th’s!

2017 – A Universal One Year
Astro-Numerology – Know  Your Personal Number Cycle For This Year!
By Dikki-Jo Mullen

Calendars and numbers naturally go together. The numbers of the days, months and years help to orient us. Numbers are essential to sanity and happiness, they help us find our way amid the chaos. There is something so comforting about numbers. Astrology and numerology have gone hand in hand at least since the time of Pythagoras in the 6th Century BC. Number codes are prominent in many spiritual texts, including The Bible.
A wonderful way to begin to understand number patterns is to consider the Universal Year. 2017 is 2+0+1+7 = 10. 1+0 =1. So 2017 is a one Universal Year.
The one year is ruled by the Sun. It is about a fresh start. Originality, courage, independence are the keynotes. Strong opinions, action, dignity, self employment, adventure, changes, daring, improving upon the status quo, experimenting are favored. There can be new knowledge presented by the astronomy world concerning the Sun in our solar system.
Flame, lilac, copper and apricot are some favorable colors for wardrobe, home décor and meditation candles this year. Crystals to wear or carry include yellow diamonds, sun stone, topaz, citrine and amber. Also the metal gold Music associated with 1 to select includes bright, cheerful music … the big band sound and horns such as trumpets. Think Herb Alpert.
Health wise the heart and circulatory system and back can be a focus for many people this year. Borage and Chamomile are favorable medicinal teas to enhance well being. Foods to have in one’s diet this year are raisin, oranges, honey, dates, season with bay leaves.
What does this number one year of 2017 hold for you? To determine your own personal year number add your month and day of birth to one, then keep adding the numbers together until just one single digit remains.
This is an example for Hillary born on October 26. 10 (for October) + 26 + 1 (for 2017) = 37 and 3 + 7 = 10. 1 +0= 1. So the year of 2017 shows a personal one year, a time of new horizons, leadership, changes and growth. The Sun’s position in her horoscope will be accented. All of the qualities of this Universal One Year will especially manifest for Hillary Clinton.
There is some variety in the astrological rulerships of the nine numbers, but here are the ones I prefer to use.

One will, leadership, vitality, independence, beginnings (Sun)

Two sensitive, partners, emotions, receptive (Moon)

Three expansion, creative, diplomatic, sociable (Jupiter)

Four structured, boundaries, limitations, physical, grounded (Saturn)

Five dual, communicates, restless, adventure, witty, clever (Mercury)

Six domestic, loyal, concerned, artistic, refined, cultured (Venus)

Seven intellectual, mysterious, mystical, reserved, occultism (Uranus)

Eight tenacious, materialist, accomplished, powerful, upward mobility
(Neptune, also Jupiter)

Nine universal, endings, humane, broad scope, spiritual, reflective
(Mars, also Pluto)

Live in Harmony With Your Numbers
Finish up things in your personal nine year, begin projects afresh in a one year. Marry or try creative projects in a two or six year. Work hard in a four or eight year. Take risks in a three year, try study and multi-tasking in a five year. Meditate and contemplate, enjoy peace and privacy in your personal seven year.

Think back upon important years in your own life. Check the numerology of the years you recall. To look ahead using numerology remember that the months of January and October of each year give a foreshadowing of the times to come in the next year. Events in January and October of 2016, for example, will foreshadow the whole of 2017.
