A New Moon of Earth Wellness
New Moon in Virgo on August 30, 2019
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer

This last New Moon of the summer season reflects the extremely interesting times in the world around us! This earliest of time keepers, the Moon, offers a cosmic snapshot of what can be expected during the weeks to come, until the next New Moon. That will be on September 28 and it marks another different cycle against the greater backdrop of time.
Friday, August 30, 2019 at 6:37 am EDT is the event chart for the New Moon. It has Mercury, the Sun and Moon, Mars, Venus and in the East Coast USA the ascendant all clustered from 0 to 11 degrees of Virgo. A swift and mercurial energy is here. The tight Virgo stellium accents study and information exchange, health care, edible garden plants, harvesting of crops, and animal welfare; especially small companion animals. Satisfaction with daily work, problem solving and trouble shooting are the themes. Try written affirmations (make your wish lists on Friday morning) to find the perfect vocation or avocation. Watch it manifest as the Moon’s phases grow in light. Virgo’s symbol is a lovely maiden holding a sheaf of wheat or other grains. Bread is the staff of life. This incredibly potent and focused New Moon lunation promises wholesome outlooks on food, taking care of obligations to the Planet and each other and (diplomatically please) constructive criticism. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus complete a Grand Trine in Earth Signs pattern. Economic survival, the meaning of money, and meeting practical needs are the theme. Artistry, since Venus is involved, can be significant. Mars is within a degree of the Sun and Moon. This warns against expressing anger or giving way to anxiety and impatience.
The August’s New Moon is at 6 degrees Virgo 46’. The keyword for the sabian symbol is “restraint”. Be courageous, don’t betray the self. The fixed star Zosma shines nearby. This triple pale yellow and blue-violet star twinkles a message warning against melancholy and overall selfishness of egomania. Take the high road in case of a conflict. Service shared can enhance a personal relationship. There can be genuine accomplishments and breakthroughs for many. Neptune in Pisces opposes the Virgo grouping. Jupiter in Sagittarius forms a T-Square in the mutable signs, with Gemini as the open corner. Check the facts, keep a focus on sincerity. Directing stress into the more positive eustress is the key to working with this pattern. New ways of managing assets and financial mores can develop. Be progressive, avoid a rut.
A Data Table – Astrological Placements for the New Moon
Sun and Moon at 6 degrees Virgo 46
Mercury 2 Virgo 12
Venus 11 Virgo 13
Mars 7 Virgo 46
Jupiter 15 Sagittarius 02
Saturn 14 Capricorn 02
Uranus 6 Taurus 28 retrograde
Neptune 17 Pisces 36 retrograde
Pluto 20 Capricorn 54 retrograde
Chiron 4 Aries 50 retrograde
N. Moon Node 16 Cancer 31
In the Orlando, Florida area and most of the Eastern USA, the lunation chart’s ascendant of 0 Virgo 23’ places the 5 planet Virgo stellium in the 1st house. Many will be thinking of image, status and appearance. Overall there is an urge to be proactive on an individual level. Key 9, The Hermit in the Tarot, relates to Virgo. He becomes the rugged individualist met at this New Moon. Meditate on The Tarot’s Hermit, join this wise and worldly figure in order to discover the perfect personal direction. Carnelian agates (for health) and sapphires (for peace and safety) are good crystals to work with. Lime and grey with navy blue are the colors. Try lavender for either tea or aroma-therapy.

A Picture of Dorian in Grays
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
The summer sky this evening, August 26, 2019, was a study in shades of grey, a strange lemon colored blur and a few glimpses of turquoise. The atmosphere crackled with a sinister expectancy. All day long the weather news stories have traced the path of Dorian, the latest hurricane in the making. All I could think of was “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. That tale by the Irish poet and novelist Oscar Wilde was first published in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine in July, 1890. The story tells of an outwardly handsome but hedonistic and abusive aristocrat whose portrait kept changing to reflect and reveal his heartless and ugly soul. Approaching from across the ocean, the path of this storm recently dubbed “Dorian” seems to bode ill for Florida. It’s an apropos namesake for the notorious Victorian villain. The sky this evening foreshadows the likelihood of some stormy hurricane haunted days ahead soon. Here is a water color I just did. The swirling sky brought these thoughts to the surface as the rains began. Tomorrow is the time to assemble a hurricane survival kit just in case … extra cat food, candles, jugs of grocery store unsweet ice tea, jars of peanut butter and a bag of fresh apples. As you look at the picture of Storm Dorian, what do you feel? What hurricane supplies do you need?

Astrology Charts and Horoscopes on Mars?

By Dikki – Jo Mullen

On August 22, 2019 news of an approaching comet, one which would be visible to the naked (interesting adjective) eye, arrived. Comets, mysterious visitors from deep space, have long been associated with significant and often shocking events on Earth, such as political power shifts or weather extremes. This one visits about every 6 ½ years and makes its perihelion in our solar system by circling only as far as Mars instead of being pulled all of the way around the Sun. This made me think of the plans to colonize Mars, which might be able to support more life forms than previously thought. Just like Moon landings, once thought to be merely the stuff of stories, of science fiction, spaceships taking vacationers to Mars might soon become a reality. Many have been asking about how to do astrology on Mars for their readings in the future. The celestial energies which are charted on Earth would certainly be present, but would need an entirely new ephemeris or astrology table. After comet gazing I came in and collapsed into a lucid dream about this overwhelming concept. I found a canvas and some acrylic paints in my art studio and painted the beginning of the cosmos as seen from Mars. Planet Earth overlooks a cliff at the edge of the Martian sea coast. Huge flowering trees, yet to be named and discovered, are rooted and reach skyward.

Woodstock in Review – A Half Century Later

Hey Astrologers,

Here is some intriguing astro data to consider. Woodstock’s 50th anniversary is affecting so many. I had one friend who talked about dressing up this week in 1960’s hippie style to celebrate Woodstock Day at her office along with her whole staff of coworkers.! That’s just one example of what a turning point that iconic event was and still is. Tickets sold for $7 per day or $18 for all three days, but when at least 50 thousand people arrived before the gates even opened, there was no way to keep up with collecting and selling admissions. Something major was happening. It was a movement. Rejecting the war in Vietnam and embracing drugs, rock n’ roll and free love were themes. Calculating the chart for Woodstock at 10am, August 15, 1969 in Bethel (near White Plains) New York. It is said those three days (August 15 -18, 1969)  which spilled into a 4th day,  seemed to change the world, it was an unprecedented festival of counter culture. Peter Fonda, Captain America, the star of Easy Rider, was one of the figures linked to that time in history. Peter Fonda in the 1969 film symbolized the free wheeling values of the time. He was born on February 23, 1940 at 12:09 pm in New York City. The event chart for Woodstock had a Leo Sun with a Moon, Mercury and Pluto conjunction in Virgo. Libra was rising. This all suggested peace and love, intense transformation and drama as well as the art and music. Peter Fonda was a Pisces born at the Full Moon in Virgo. His natal chart is profoundly linked to the 1969 transits and to the counter culture of the late 1960’s- 70’s.. Peter Fonda died on August 16, 2019 in Los Angeles at 11:05 am. His death from lung cancer was right on the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, The transit of Neptune in Pisces was oppose his natal Neptune in Virgo. His Sun and Moon (the lights or luminaries in the horoscope) were aspected by Neptune. A strong Neptune often seems to mark a passing. There is much more to see in these astrology charts, but these are some of the highlights I saw at a glance.

Aquarius Full Moon Reverie
Thursday, August 15, 2019
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
Long before clocks and watches were used to tell time, even before sundials and the great stone circles, such as Stonehenge, mapped out The Wheel of the Year, the Moon was the first time keeper people relied on. Luna’s various phases punctuated the highlights of every month. At each Full Moon an index of several names, provided clues to the passing of seasons. Year after year, as Earth circles the Sun and the Moon circles the Earth, the lunar time keeper faithfully keeps the measure still.
Attuning to the Full Moon offers a valuable aid, a reference point, in focusing on where we are amid the yearly rising of buds and falling of leaves. The zodiac sign of the Full Moon is always directly across the Zodiacal wheel from the familiar Sun sign. The sign of Leo is directly across from Aquarius.
The Full Moon on August 15, 2019 will be at 22 degrees of Aquarius 24 minutes and occurs at 8:29 am EDT. Its names include Sturgeon Moon. The Full Moon for August is often dubbed Sturgeon Moon because of the large number of sturgeon and other fish in the Great Lakes where the Native Americans tribes fished. Other names for this August Full Moon include Green Corn Moon, Barley Moon, Fruit Moon, and Grain Moon from Old English/Anglo-Saxon. Also the Wort (plant) Moon, Dispute Moon, Weodmonath (Vegetation Month) and Moon When Cherries Turn Black, among others.
The Full Moon this month is in the Venus-Uranus decanate of Aquarius. Justice, social and humanitarian issues and the arts are accented. It is nearly conjunct the fixed star Deneb Algedi, located near the tail of the Goat. This star’s key words are prosperity and wrath. Make an effort and success follows a past disappointment. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is “A big bear, sitting down and waving all its paws.” The interpretation is self discovery and developing aptitudes. Also literally watch out for passing bears, even teddy bears and figurines.
The Sun in Leo forms a stellium with Venus and Mars. There is an urge to reach goals, to be assertive. Attention to appearance, social interaction and competition are focal points. A Mercury – Uranus square brings changes in plans and outlook. Jupiter will trine the Leo planets, showing travel, growth and healing.
Here are the astrological placements at the Full Moon. They are strong while the Moon is in the Full phase for the 3 days following the lunation. The impact culminates at the next New Moon on August 30, 2019

A Summer’s Evening in 2019 and a Glimpse of Brigadoon

By Dikki-Jo Mullen

“Brigadoon – a place that is idyllic, unaffected by time, or remote from reality.”

Walking in the waning sunlight on a burnished August evening, I lapsed into a reverie. The green hues of trees and grass were fading to a deep gold. I wondered if the first hint of autumn was here or if it was wishful thinking on my part. In this soft and graceful light the path through the park took on a different glow as I walked along. Tucked into its curves and folds are shadowed places. It is strolling here where I experienced a font of inspiration. Perhaps it was because of the surreal heat index of 105 degrees. Or was it a genuine glimpse into some other dimension? Everything changed. It became another place and another time in my perception. At home again later that night I did my best to capture the strange vision by drawing it in pastels. (see the post above)

Here it is, along with a description of the contemplative interlude which brought the vision.

The Highlands of Scotland, which is yet one of the most sparsely populated areas in Europe, is a place that is rich in history and magic. It is there that a village lies which neither appears on any maps or is even accessible except to the villagers who live there. In the 17th Century, according to legend, it was known that many witches and spirits loitered in the area. The minister in this elusive place decided to resolve the situation by asking for a miracle. The miracle was granted, but at a price. The request for a blessing was answered by a decree. It was that the village of Brigadoon would appear for only one day in each century. For those who are very lucky, who believe that all things are possible, who believe hard enough, one day Brigadoon might be seen at dawn, rising out of the morning mist. It will disappear again at sunset for another hundred years. There might or might not be an entire village of Brigadoon. Yet for all who would follow the way of the seeker, the mystic, what can be found may always be cherished and remembered. It is a reminder that it is possible to discover beauty, a lovely and magical place promised with the dawning of each day. As it disappears into the night a reminder of other realities and possibilities lingers.
