Rare Black Moon Eclipse
April 30, 2022
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer

Almost always each month will have one New Moon and one Full Moon. The Moon was the first time keeper, followed since earliest times to measure the passage of the seasons. New Moons mark beginnings and a time of growth while Full Moons illuminate the peak of an energy flow before the power starts to diminish and wane. Rarely, usually about every two to three years, a month will have two Full Moons, the second of which is called the Blue Moon. “Once in a Blue Moon” is a common phrase associated with this mystical event, It’s a time, thought to bring unusual and serendipitous situations. Poetry, songs and other lore honor the Blue Moon. The second New Moon in a calendar is equally rare, but is seldom commented on. It’s called a Black Moon. The Black Moon is a dark, mystical time, when a hidden realm emerges. Faeries, spirits and other supernatural phenomena are associated with the time of the Black Moon. It favors witchery an spell craft, ritual, reverie and the creating of magic. The New Moon on April 30, 2022 is a Black Moon, the second New Moon in April. It is also a partial solar eclipse, which adds a deeper level of intensity. It’s an eclipse of the North Moon node, which is generally considered more favorable than a South Node eclipse. Major events correlate with eclipses, they are times when the Sun’s rays are temporarily blocked. This affects all living things. Eclipses tend to be unpredictable, bringing what is least expected. It’s a time to welcome or at least accept change.
The Black Moon eclipse of the New Moon on April 30, 2022 occurs at 4:28 pm EDT at 10 degrees Taurus 28’, in the Venus-Mercury decanate of Taurus. Finances, travel, the arts and ecology can be impacted. In “Degrees of the Zodiac Symbolized” this degree is “A man seated on a throne, holding a scepter and crowned.” The idea is wealth and service. The Sabian Symbol for the same degree is “A Woman Sprinkling Flowers”. Think of beauty, nurture and Mother Nature. Uranus is conjunct the Sun and Moon during this intriguing Black Moon. This Uranian factor promises originality, resourcefulness and willfulness while seeking excitement. April 30 is also Walpurgis Nacht, a night when magical meetings and celebrations have taken place for centuries. Walpurgis Nacht, or St. Walpurga’s night, is celebrated by witches and the rest of the metaphysical crowd on the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains of Germany. May Day or Beltane on May 1 is linked to this annual event. Maypole dances and welcoming the spring mark this date in the magical wheel of the year. Among the various traditions of April 30 – May 1 is the magic of dew. Before dawn on May 1 anoint the eye lids with morning dew to become clairvoyant, seeing the wee folk. Washing the face with this same morning dew is also rumored to create beauty and enhanced charisma. Dreams can be significant and symbolic. Take note of them upon waking on April 30 – May 1.
The Moon is exalted in Taurus, ushering in a beautiful grounding energy. It’s a gentle invitation to attune to the beauties of the land. Bless some crystals or compound a potpourri of flowers, roots and herbs. Slow, patient appreciation of fragrances, sounds and colors to satiate the senses can add to the magic of experiencing this lunation. The April 30 eclipse begins an approximate two week interval of surprising twists and turns, as there is a second eclipse coming up. Eclipses usually occur in groups of two and always at a New of Full Moon. The time between eclipses is highlighted by amazing situations. Be flexible, let the universe make the first move in order to cope.

This month’s Full Moon is on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 2:55 pm EDT. Seed Moon and Pink Moon are two of the traditional names for April’s Full Moon. The Seed reference is an obvious salute to the renewal of new life and rebirth with the sprouting of new seedlings. Pink honors the colors of spring flowers, especially Phlox blossoms, which explode into a bright panorama of pink. Both names reflect the Easter story, a metaphor which has fascinated people for over two thousand years. Death and resurrection are the themes, a reminder that life is eternal and each ending promises a bright new beginning. Easter is the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the first day of spring. This year the lunation falls on Holy Saturday, on the eve before Easter and two days after Passover, another Holy Day determined by the lunar calendar.
Events which began with the New Moon on April 1 reach a manifestation. A glance at the event chart for this deeply spiritual Full moon also reveals what is promised until the Black Moon eclipse on April 30, 2022 begins a whole new cycle. And so life goes on. Saturday’s Full Moon is at 26 degrees Libra 45’. “Degrees of the Zodiac” interprets this degree as “A rustic cottage over reached by a cedar tree”. Shelter, benevolence, simplicity and befriending a wayfarer are some of the meanings. This suggests the charity and resources being offered to the refugees from Ukraine and to the many others in need. In Eastern Europe Holy Week is an especially important holiday. The intricate pysanky eggs, decorated with wax designs, sumptuous holiday meals featuring rich pastries, Easter Baskets and new clothes are some of the traditional highlights. With the Full Moon in the Venus-Mercury ruled decanate of Libra the social and artistic sides brightening Holy Week along with travel, music and literature can have added appeal. Arcturus is a fixed star which is in orb influencing this Full Moon. It is a golden yellow light twinkling in the left knee of the constellation Bootes, the Bear watcher. Arcturus has a Mars-Jupiter energy, according to Ptolemy. Navigation, new friends, domestic harmony are some keynotes expected when it impacts the Moon. An opposition to the Sun and a square to Pluto are the significant aspects impacting this Full Moon. Challenges to face and many exceptional demands and expectations are likely. An emotional attachment to justice and a yearning for relationships of all kinds can also characterize this lunar cycle. Negotiations and seeking of harmony and balance will be paramount.
Vladimir Putin (born October 7, 1952, 9:30 am in St. Petersburg, Russia) has the Sun, Saturn, Neptune and Mercury in Libra. The Full Moon affects this stellium profoundly, especially his natal Mercury. He has a Scorpio ascendant with the Libra stellium in the 12th house. His Gemini Moon is intercepted in his 8th house, and is being squared by four transits in Pisces. It is entirely possible that his mental state and well being could deteriorate and his influence wane.
Astrologers, what else do you see in the event chart for this Full Moon?
