Seance Invocation

A Seance Invocation
There is a land where we all go,
Whence ne’r the frost nor cold wind blow,
And friends remembered reunite,
And those who hate, forget their spite.
In glow surround these gentle beings,
We call you now to bless our meetings,
Heaven’s promise, our spirits thrive,
So now for the living, let the dead come alive.
Greetings Spirits… Speak thee to us?
From “The Spirit Speaks Weekly Newspaper” 1901

Summon The Spirits For A Successful Séance
The participants say these words together, seated around a table.
(preferably one of wood, oak or pine, and round or oval in shape)

“Our beloved (think or say the name of a desired spirit loved one) we bring you gifts from life into death.
Commune with us (think or say the names of the desired contacts) and move among us.”

Repeat three times. The number three is very important in séance traditions. There must be at least three present to have a séance, it’s good if the number of people is divisible by three. At least three candles should be lit too. The trinity, past, present and future, the sacred pyramid and other mystical links can be seen in the three.
The third time is the charm.

The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos or Día de los Muertos) is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. It largely originated in Mexico, where it is mostly observed, but also in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. Although associated with the Western Christian All hallowtide observances of All Hallows’ Eve, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, it has a much less solemn tone and is portrayed as a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed.
Traditions connected with the holiday include honoring the deceased using calaveras and aztec marigold flowers known as cempazúchitl, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased. The celebration is not solely focused on the dead, as it is also common to give gifts to friends such as candy sugar skulls, to share traditional pan de muerto with family and friends, and to write light-hearted and often irreverent verses in the form of mock epitaphs dedicated to living friends and acquaintances.

Halloween (the Celtic cross quarter holiday of Samhain) is a time when we commonly hear the phrase the “thinning of the veils.” This is the close of the yearly cycle of the year when all things in nature are getting ready to rest. The hard work of the year, Harvest, is now being rewarded. The nights grow longer, and the weather chills. The focus is on the inner tasks and the pace slows. This is the time of remembering and honoring the ancestors. Appreciate those who have passed to the other side, perhaps companion animals as well as friends and relatives. Preparing an ancestor altar or dumb supper is traditional at this time of year, Halloween and the Days of the Dead.

Many of the traditions that we associate with Halloween — including dressing up in costumes, going trick-or-treating and carving jack-o’-lanterns — are modern interpretations of Samhain (pronounced saw-win). Gaelic for “summer’s end,” Samhain is an ancient Celtic festival celebrated from sunset on October 31 to sunset on November 1; this falls about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. The festival marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of the darker, colder half of the year. During Samhain, people bring cattle down from their grazing pastures and choose which animals to slaughter for winter. Households take careful stock of their pantries and food supplies in order to prepare for the long, cold weather ahead. Samhain honors the darker side of things.
Samhain is considered a “liminal” time, as it straddles the line between the abundance of summer and the harsh realities of winter. The liminality associated with the evening of October 31 creates a window during which spirits can easily enter the world of the living. Believers think that during Samhain the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest, and deceased family members and friends can return to visit their previous homes.

A Traditional Looking Glass Charm for Halloween at Midnight
Just as the clock is about to strike midnight on October 31st to November 1st light a candle and go into a dark room with a mirror. At the exact midnight hour gaze into the mirror. Ring a bell three times. Over your left shoulder will appear the image of your true love in the mirror. This image might be a potential spouse, but it could also be a home, a place, an animal companion such as a cat, dog, bird or horse, or some desired object such as a flower, crystal, etc. Take note of the vision, it will likely be a quick flash, but it holds the key to finding the blessing of true love!

Halloween through the Days of the Dead and Election Day
The Season of Eclipses in 2022
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
Eclipses are the exclamation points in the cosmos. They punctuate wild weather and mark major turning points of all kinds. The world news can be especially surprising near eclipses. On Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 6:49 am EDT there will be a partial solar eclipse at the New Moon at 2 degrees Scorpio 00 minutes. The Full Moon on Election Day, November 8, 2022, brings a total lunar eclipse at 16 degrees Taurus 00 at 6:02 am EST. The two week cycle between October 25 through November 8 can be a turbulent time of twists and turns. The spirit world will be especially active. A departed loved one or a meandering local ghost may send messages from the afterlife.
Eclipses are unpredictable. Astrology reminds us to expect the unexpected when eclipses occur. The October 25 eclipse degree has the symbol of “A great headland over which the Sun is rising.” This is a lofty image, suggesting elevated goals. The focus is idealistic and futuristic. The November 8 eclipses hints at upsets around the general election in the United States. Its symbol reads “Swimming in a river against the current, making no progress.” This eclipse pattern falls on the Taurus/Scorpio financial axis, primarily this hints at changes in long held financial management guidelines. The economy could take a rollercoaster ride. Values are being redefined. Look at the houses ruled by Taurus and Scorpio and the planets and luminaries in your own horoscope in those signs within three degrees of the eclipse points for insights concerning how this important celestial pattern impacts you.

Consider the highlights for your own Sun (familiar birth) sign and ascendant (rising) sign. Eclipses have an after shock impact for up to 18 months.
Aries – Values are in flux, sources of income can change, there is a need to do research about tax and insurance issues.
Taurus- Personal identity and self image are evolving. There is an urge for greater freedom.

All Hallows Ballad

A Halloween Ballad to a Pumpkin
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
Jack O’ lantern faeries are inside,
They hide, not easily seen,
Until their pumpkin is cut and clean,
Lovingly carved with eyes, mouth, nose,
Add the teeth in two fine rows,
Now the faeries start to enter,
Sitting in a circle at the center,
Around the warm bright candle,
Toasting marshmallows on forked handle,
Warm cider and candy eats,
Faeries savor Halloween treats,
With the goodies soon quite stuffed,
Their fey wings in delight will fluff,
In the candle’s cheerful glow,
Deep true magic tonight will flow
Now peek beneath the pumpkin’s lid,
Can you see what’s in there hid?
Faeries grinning ear to ear,
It’s the best time of the year.

Halloween Ode

Ode To Carving A Jack o’Lantern
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
First cut the top, make a circle, remove the lid,
Slimy, slick and stringy seeds inside to follow,
Scoop and scrape the cavity amid,
Pumpkin’s walls, making all dry, white and hollow,
Trace the face to carve, then add a candle,
Light surrounds, streams from that rind
Sinister and bright, smiling at its secret scandal
Now the gourd is surely dead,
Orange touches and grows warm like skin,
Covering the skull, the golden head,
Sneers its toothy grin.

October’s Full Moon on October 9, 2022
Pioneering and a Spirit of Change
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer
The Dying Grass Moon, Harvest Moon, Blood Moon, Hunter’s Moon and Flying Ducks Moon are some of the names given to October’s lunation in the early lunar calendars. The messages involve hunting and harvesting while preparing the provisions for the wintery times to come, moving on and migration. This October’s Full Moon is at 16 degrees 32 minutes of Aries, at 4:54 pm EDT on Sunday, October 9, 2022. It is in the Mars-Sun decanate of the sign suggesting situations involving leadership and power. It’s also near the fixed star Alpheratz which mythologically glorifies strong goddess figures. The dignity and prominence of goddess archetypes will impact and appeal to many. Aries is embodies the spirit of the pioneer. The Full Moon joins Jupiter and Chiron in Aries, the whole celestial grouping points to adventure and progress. It’s a time of revolution and pioneering. Events unfold rapidly. Many of the traditional beliefs and established rules are on the verge of a complete change. Retrograde planets are finally starting to turn direct, including Mercury, Pluto and Saturn. It’s a time to plan the future and attune to new trends. Two eclipses are coming up during the month of this Full Moon. These will be on October 25 (Scorpio) and November 8 (taurus and Election Day in the USA). Eclipses relate to everlasting changes. The eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio will profoundly influence finances. Stock markets, banking and other financial institutions are highlighted. Mercury in Virgo emphasizes health care and details. Mercury opposes Neptune. Double check for truth and accuracy. Mars is in the midst of a very long stay in Gemini, bringing much information and communication to share and process. The Sun is conjunct Venus in Libra, this positive influence favors the arts as well as establishing connections with like minded people. Heed what resonates within the heart, be guided by intuition. What warms the heart and feels right marks the personal journey to welcoming this new phase in world history. Events now bring a hint of the times ahead during the next year or two. The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon’s degree is “Two prim spinsters sitting together in silence.” Spinsters were the original working women, so this image underscores the influence of women and peaceful collaboration. In “Degrees of the Zodiac Symbolized” this same Full Moon degree is “A woman holding a Scale, balancing a glass of wine with coins.” The meaning here is about choices and decisions, is pleasure and merriment more important or should the choice involve holding on to wealth and possessions?” Astrologers, what else do you see in this powerful Full Moon event chart? Remember that the horoscope is cast for Central Florida so adjust the house cusps for your own location if needed. The Witches’ Almanac lunar calendar has relevant messages for October 8, 10 and 11, 2022. These are “Turn the page”, “Pray to the Moon” and “Always be grateful”. How do these messages apply to your own life while attuning to the Moon’s magic? The Moon is the special ruler of witchcraft, according to “The Rulership Book” by Rex Bills.
