Finding Happiness Poem
by Dikki-Jo Mullen
Seeking happiness, so elusive and maddening can be,
Happiness. So hard to grasp, understand or see,
Poets, mystics, friends and foes
All whispering, offering advice about finding where happiness grows.
Once in a glossy magazine I read
a long list of ways to trap happiness
Amid the world’s wrath and dread.
One sage idea therein offered was a sure and easy path,
A happiness quest, easy, quite near at hand, yet linked not to
Love, money, fame or land, but with ease,
Just simply finding or building a front porch.
Shaded, welcoming a passing gypsy breeze,
Sheltered from the wind or the sun’s scorch,
Relaxing in the calm comfort at peace on a porch.
Watching the day unfold, set or rise, as time and birds fly by,
People, pets and other wonders wander nigh.
Yes, having a porch, is a sure, wise and reachable way,
To add more joy to every day,
Smile at how fate and the changing world may
Toss and squelch our joy
Sit safe on the porch, let dreams and goals return to toy.
(written on the front porch on a still, hot and silent Sunday in August, 2023)
Beautiful! Love this!
