Full Oak Moon Astrology
November 27, 2023
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer

Expect a rather hectic Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. The Moon will be waxing toward Full, creating a frenzied and driven mood around celebrations. The lunar energy will peak on Monday, November 27. In the lore of Full Moon names this lunation before Yuletide has been called The Oak Moon. The enduring quality of items constructed of sturdy oak wood might be part of the origin of this name. There are doors which are a thousand years old and still in use today made of ancient oak. Also oak, which is long burning, is a popular choice for the yule log, ignited in anticipation of the winter solstice. The hours of darkness are reaching the depths and soon the sunlight will begin to increase.
The Full Oak Moon, at 4:16 am EST on Monday, November 27, will be at 4 degrees Gemini 51 minutes. This is in the double Mercury decanate of the sign. Express yourself, circulate, communicate. Examine novel ideas and incorporate versatility into your life. The symbol for this degree is a complex one. It reads “Two men standing in a wood in an act of fighting a duel. Between them lies a rich purple and gold vesture and a casket of jewels.” This is a degree of chance. There is an effort to gain wealth and position but there is opposition to meet in winning the prize. One might either win or perish in the attempt. Great hazards hover nearby. This seems to hint that it’s important to analyze if a challenging situation is worthwhile. Would it be better to walk away and focus on some enjoyable merry making instead of taking a risk? Or is it worthwhile to accept the challenge?
Where does 4-5 degrees of Gemini fall in your own birth chart? There lies your answer. The event chart for this Full Moon is heavily mutable with the Moon, Saturn, Neptune, the Sun Mars and Mercury all in mutable signs. The Sun conjunct Mars is fiery and argumentative. A powerful and dynamic T-Square aspect is formed. Virgo, the remaining mutable sign, forms the open end of the cross. Multi tasking, distractions, health concerns and several stressful situations can demand to be juggled. A sense of humor and arranging priorities might be helpful. Other factors in this chart include Venus in Libra, which brings appreciation for music and the other arts. This can include exceptional holiday décor. Jupiter and Uranus are retrograde in Taurus. Economic concerns and earth changes are repeating patterns, yet hold elements of surprise.
For astrologers outside of central Florida be sure to adjust the house cusps for your own location for a clearer celestial picture.

New Moon in Scorpio
November 13, 2023
Watching For Hecate
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
The 13th of the month! Although it is on a Monday, not a Friday, in November, 2023, the numerology of 13 foreshadows the mood. Mystery, darkness, supernatural and subtle, November’s New Moon highlights a magical quality. It ushers in the deepening part of The Gloom Time. Not gloomy as in negative, but instead suggesting quiet embracing shadows and calming hours of darkness. As the evenings begin sooner and the nights grow longer the world looks different. Suddenly the bright sunlit hours pass unmarked. Everything is about what is going on in the dark, beneath the surface. Its appeal is in its subtlety. This New Moon takes place at 4:27 am EST at 20 degrees Scorpio 43 minutes. It is in the Pluto/Moon ruled decanate of Scorpio. Dreams, sensitivity and the chthonic underworld are opening to reveal the path to transformation. Many death metaphors are around us, but this isn’t about perishing in a negative sense. Instead it allows the old to run its course in order to welcome renewal. Or so we would like to think. Avoid panic as the darkness gathers. In “Degrees of the Zodiac” by Charubel (Alan Leo) this degree is symbolized by “a buffalo pawing on an eminence (rocky cliff). The message is one of boldness, independence and assertiveness. This New Moon is in orb of a conjunction with the fixed star Unukalhai (also known as Alpha Serpentis) It’s located in the constellation of Serpens. It has the nature of Mars and Saturn.
This star is orange in color. It is visible from Central Florida at about 9pm in the evening this month. Look toward the southwest direction. A sky map can help you locate the constellation Serpens where Unukahai /Alpha Serpentis is the brightest star. It is believed by some to have a negative influence, causing accidents, violence, and danger of poison. However, if used positively, its influence can be redirected to assure good fortune in healing or teaching.
At this New Moon there is a conjunction with the Sun and Moon and Mars in Scorpio near Unukalhai. These three significant celestial bodies are also in an opposition with Uranus in Taurus. The message is to approach others in a positive manner, channel all efforts in a positive direction and deescalate any conflict. The three Scorpio placements are in a mutually applying trine with retrograde Neptune in Pisces. This promises realizations and guidance coming through dreamwork and meditation. Intuition and patience offer your best guidelines. The New Moon sets the activity pace for the next four weeks. Write a wish list during the 8 hours following the lunation to watch your wishes materialize near the Full Moon on November 28. A new lunar cycle commences on December 12, 2023.
Hecate Night, November 16, closely reflects the mood of this November 13 New Moon. Hecate’s nature is transformative, she is a goddess of the night, storms and crossroads. Her nature is otherworldly, or perhaps underworldly. Watch for her traveling with large black dogs, draped in a swirling black cloak. “Howl to Hecate” was a favorite bumper sticker which adorned an old VW I drove back and forth to college long ago. Hecate! This dark crone of the old ways might await to guide seekers during the November nights near the Scorpio New Moon. Watch for her, especially at crossroads.
This 2023 Thanksgiving holiday ideally should be celebrated in a simple and calm way, reflecting upon all that there is to be grateful for. Remember to offer a prayer, especially if you are able to sit down to savor a favorite dish or two.

Celtic Zodiac Sign
The Reed (Ngetal) – October 28 – November 24

Reed (Ngetal) – October 28 – November 24
The Reed is the inscrutable, the secret keeper of the Celtic Zodiac. Stones, Pluto, the god Pwyll as well as Hecate, goddess of the crossroads are keynote associations. It’s Ancestor Connections and the Gloom Time. Reeds can be fashioned into pan pipes, musical instruments which might speak with the dead. Thatched roofs for shelter and other useful items can be created from these flexible branches. It’s a time of preparation and uncertainty concerning what might be ahead with the winter to come.
