February’s Full Moon will be exact at 1:28 pm EST on February 5 at 16 degrees Leo 40’. The Storm Moon is among the traditional names given to this lunation. This year it seems especially relevant as winter storms lash across the United States with record low temperatures carrying snow and ice in abundance. The event chart for the Full Moon shows a wide Sun-Saturn conjunction opposing the Moon with a very close square to Uranus at 15 degrees of Taurus. Challenges to democracy and a stormy political climate reflect the inclement weather. Mercury conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. This encourages deep thinking and discovery of truth. A wide applying Venus-Neptune conjunction in Pisces is intensely spiritual and otherworldly. Many can find comfort in connecting with angels and spirit guides. The Pisces placements indicate romance, artistry, a spirit of charity and a desire for peace being embraced by many in the face of the increasing challenges to harmony and well being everywhere.
This Full Moon is in the Sun-Jupiter decanate of Leo, with healing, largesse and wider horizons as some keynotes. The Chinese New Year of the Rabbit hops in with the New Moon in January. Rabbit Years tend to be easy genteel, kindly and peaceful. The tail end of the fierce Tiger Year is turning and running away into the distance. Share a collective sigh of relief. The times they are a-chang’in. The promise of a new cycle is here. The New Moon in Aquarius is on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 3:53 pm EST at 1 degree Aquarius 32 minutes. Weather shifts often take place when the Moon is New. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is “An unexpected thunderstorm”. The Sun and Moon are in an out of sign conjunction with Pluto too. Keep an eye out and prepare for some wild weather. In “Degrees of the Zodiac” the same degree becomes “A book on which stands a compass and an hour glass”. Scientific studies, the laws of nature and investigations are suggested. This lunation is in the double Uranus decanate of Aquarius too, underscoring technology and the space program. There can be some breakthroughs. Expect a longing to travel or get involved in a new project to escape boredom. Conflicts become battles of words, wits and strategy. The strong accent on fixed signs generates a certain individuality and a stubborn adherence to personal agendas. “Live and let live” would be a good mantra to chant for this lunar month. Write a wish list during the eight hours following the New Moon and watch for them (or at least many of them) to manifest as Luna grows brighter until the Moon is Full in Leo on February 5th.
