A Halloween Ballad to a Pumpkin
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
Jack O’ lantern faeries are inside,
They hide, not easily seen,
Until their pumpkin is cut and clean,
Lovingly carved with eyes, mouth, nose,
Add the teeth in two fine rows,
Now the faeries start to enter,
Sitting in a circle at the center,
Around the warm bright candle,
Toasting marshmallows on forked handle,
Warm cider and candy eats,
Faeries savor Halloween treats,
With the goodies soon quite stuffed,
Their fey wings in delight will fluff,
In the candle’s cheerful glow,
Deep true magic tonight will flow
Now peek beneath the pumpkin’s lid,
Can you see what’s in there hid?
Faeries grinning ear to ear,
It’s the best time of the year.
