The Year of the Wood Dragon
February 10, 2024 – January 28, 2025
By Dikki-Jo Mullen
The Dragon is the fifth of the twelve animal signs in the Chinese Zodiac. Dragon is the only supernatural creature in this celestial parade of animals, which each represent a year. Five elements (fire, water, metal, earth and wood) are also a part of this oldest of the world’s zodiac/calendars. Based on a cycle of twelve years rather than twelve months, this zodiac – calendar is followed throughout the Far East from Japan and Korea to Vietnam and China. Every sixty years the pattern of element-animal pairs repeats. Chinese New Year commences with the second New Moon after the winter solstice. This places the lunar New Year in late January to mid February. It almost always will be at the New Moon in Aquarius.
Dragon years are thought to be most auspicious. Good luck, health and strength are on the rise. Talent and overall excellence are expressed. In the Orient there is a legend that humans are descended from a dragon. Employers and other important people are said to be reincarnated dragons. During dragon years seeking comfort and enhanced personal well being is encouraged. The Dragon encourages an upbeat and happy influence. Linked to the highest of celestial energies, it is imposing and magnificent. As an emblem of authority and power, Dragon is portrayed holding a magical pearl in his mouth. This precious jewel represents both the Moon and Sun as well as the spiritual essence of the universe. Among Dragon‘s attributes is a wisdom exceeding that of other animals. He can transform himself into a myriad of shapes, from a tiny dragonfly to a huge and fiery serpentine creature covering the entire sky. The various species of Dragons are differentiated by the five elements. 2024 brings the Green Wood Dragon. The Wood element is the personification of growth and development. Its color, green, carries a positive, association with the flowering of nature and new life. The Wood Dragon also is thought to guard homes and other important structures against collapse.
At the same time the wise will be cautious when considering gambles. Dragon can go too far and become a party monster. The year’s electrical atmosphere can generate folly through impulsive moves and over extension. Look ahead at the consequences before taking a significant risk. The mighty Dragon ushers in numerous surprises and encourages progressive revolts against the status quo. Those born during a Dragon year are described as being flamboyant, regal, magnetic, intelligent, good managers and leaders.
